I decided to embark upon a 30 day drawing challenge since I haven’t had any time to just sketch for pleasure lately. And I am going to try to stick to actual sketching for all of them even though I am so tempted to throw it into Ai. The challenge for the first day was a self portrait. I haven’t done a life-like self portrait in a looooong time. I started with graphite, then painted it, then threw it in Photoshop for tweaking. I wish I had put a body on the end result, but OH WELL!

Then for day 2 we had to draw our favorite animal. I decided to go with one I would actually want as a pet. I grew up with these guys. They are big teddy bears if you know how to raise them.

I love seeing how people get creative with our designs…

I haven’t posted in a while! I sold my most recent painting at the Park Gallery on Saturday Night > “Mercedes”. She was so recent that I don’t think I ever took a good picture of her completed! She was acrylic on wood canvas. Its always so humbling when someone likes your work enough to take it home with them – into their lives. Here are the pictures of her that I have. I really enjoyed using bright colors. The funny thing is that I think my favorite part of this painting is her nose. I wanted it to stand out and not be perfectly straight. I think it gives her character beyond a nose that is so perfectly smooth and shapely that your eye passes it. I like noses.

I was recently sent this link by a client (Carolyn Grossi) that I worked with to create some princess graphics for a project that she was working on. She really came up with a genius idea! If I had a little girl I would absolutely go for this!

…and Alan Cook. This picture was inspired by his style. I found his blog not too long ago and I just ADORE him! I love his mix of gritty and clean. I borrowed his techniques and some patterns (and of course the glasses) to learn. I love how it turned out.
This is a custom Blog Banner that I worked on for Book Chick City. A wonderful Blog that I recommend to all you book lovers out there!

Another quick cartoon of myself. I love John K’s wonderful style especially his girls because I just love how he manages to make them look completely fun and crazy yet still pretty and feminine. I thought I would just do a quick dabble in a mix of his inspired style with some of my own. I mean this doesn’t really touch his, but again thats not the point. I hope I can continue to expand on a more lose style.
